The “Transportation Electrification in the Southeast” seventh annual report, published on September 8, 2026 by Atlas Public Policy in collaboration with the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE), is a snapshot of EV market momentum and resilience in the Southeast at a pivotal political inflection point. The report examines data from July 2025 through June 2026 for six states across the Southeast – Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee – across six market indicators: manufacturing investments; anticipated jobs; EV sales; charging infrastructure deployment; utility investments; and public funding. The report, along with one-pagers with state-specific data, can be found linked below.
Highlights in the “Transportation Electrification in the Southeast” seventh annual report include:
- The Southeast remains the nation’s leader in EV manufacturing investment and employment. Through June 30, 2026, the region accounted for 40% of announced U.S. EV manufacturing investment and 32% of announced EV manufacturing jobs, totaling nearly $74 billion and more than 61,300 jobs — even as the past 12 months saw $4.5 billion in canceled or scaled-back investment and more than 9,700 lost anticipated jobs, further contributing to annual investment losses noted last year.
- In 2026, the Southeast crossed the 1 million new passenger EVs sold threshold — a milestone to celebrate. Sales rose 25% from last year, with 225,000 new EVs sold, while the regional 12-month average EV market share climbed to 7.4% by the end of Q2 2026, after seeing a low of 5.5% in Q3 2025. Florida was the only state to climb above the national average of 7.9% to 9.4% by the end of Q2 2026.
- Additionally, EV driver satisfaction reached an all-time high, and the used EV market expanded, with the Southeast recording 140,800 used EV sales over the past 12 months, 34% more than the year prior.
- Investment by the region’s investor-owned utilities (IOUs) increased by 14% year-over-year, though the region continues to trail the national average in IOU EV investments per utility customer.
