Southeast
From marshlands to mountaintops, big cities to rural countryside – behind every picture of the Southeast is a cherished community that’s growing more vulnerable to climate change every day.
And yet, our region’s major utility companies continue to burn fossil fuels like fossil gas and coal to generate electricity, magnifying the dangerous impacts of the climate crisis. The good news? The Southeast has significant potential for smart, affordable, and reliable clean energy that doesn’t contribute to the climate crisis, like solar power, energy efficiency solutions, and electric transportation. Transitioning to clean energy will reduce the climate pollution impacting our communities.
69% of Americans believe that climate change is happening, and 58% say it is caused mostly by human activities like burning fossil fuels.
As of December 2025, the Southeast attracted over $79 billion in EV, battery manufacturing, and supply chain investments, making the region #1 in the nation.
The Southeast already hosts over 30 gigawatts of solar, with Florida utilities leading the charge in capacity additions.
Still, one in three people in the South struggles to pay monthly energy bills, while energy efficiency measures like installing heat pumps and insulating homes can help make energy bills more affordable for everyone.
