Solar Power Adoption
Solar is the lowest-cost electricity generation resource in the Southeast and will be the backbone of the region’s clean electricity future.
Solar is a low-cost electricity generation resource with high potential across the Southeast. SACE is working to support the rapid adoption of solar at all levels. Distributed small-scale solar on rooftops and parking lots, community-scale solar, and large utility-scale solar all play a unique and important role in making electricity more affordable, reliable, and cleaner by reducing fossil fuel pollution.
The Southeast already hosts over 22 gigawatts of solar to serve about 33 million customers. That’s enough electricity for nearly 4 million homes.
There is no fuel cost for solar because there is no fuel, making it a cost-effective, reliable, and stable investment for electricity generation.
Over 74 gigawatts of large-scale solar and solar + storage projects are waiting to interconnect to electricity grids in NC, SC, GA, FL, and TN alone.
