Wind farm in Tenn. expands to generate more clean power

TVA's Buffalo Mountain wind farm in Oliver Springs, Tennessee expanded in December 2004 from 3 to 18 turbines, increasing capacity from 2 megawatts to 29 megawatts—enough to power 3,000 homes. The $30 million privately financed expansion by Invenergy LLC is the South's largest commercial wind operation and helps supply TVA's Green Power Switch renewable energy program. Stephen Smith, director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, praised TVA's demonstration that renewable energy can be successfully deployed in the Southeast.
