Vogtle Nuclear Project To Cost More, Take Longer
In this mention
Georgia Power announced that the Plant Vogtle nuclear expansion project near Augusta is over $700 million over budget and 19 months behind schedule, with total costs now approaching $14 billion. Sara Barzack of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy expressed concern that cost overruns could spiral further and urged state regulators to consider scrapping the project. The Georgia Public Service Commission will hold public hearings over the coming months to determine whether ratepayers or the company should absorb costs beyond the originally approved price tag.
