NextEra Energy announced that retired executive Armando Pimentel will replace retiring FPL CEO Eric Silagy, a move industry watchers view as ensuring continuity under seasoned leadership. Stephen A. Smith, executive director of SACE, noted that Pimentel's experience will be needed to implement FPL's 2045 carbon emissions elimination goal, though he expressed hope the new leadership will be more open to dialogue on solar policy and other issues than the previous regime.

Are they [FPL officials] arrogant? Yes. They are hard to deal with sometimes. When they are criticized, particularly under Eric's leadership, they are extraordinarily thin-skinned. I hope that changes and they are open to meaningful dialogue and engagement.
