US NRC freezes decisons on new reactor, license renewal applications
In this mention
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission voted unanimously to freeze final decisions on new nuclear reactor licenses and 20-year license renewals pending resolution of its waste confidence rule, which was struck down by a federal court in June. The freeze does not affect previous licensing decisions such as those for Southern Co.'s Vogtle plant in Georgia and South Carolina Electric & Gas Summer plant. The NRC will continue reviewing applications and plans to issue a revised waste confidence rule addressing environmental assessment requirements.
