TVA mulling private proposal to back Bellefonte nuke project

TVA is reviewing a proposal from retired TVA officials and Credit Suisse to complete the mothballed Bellefonte nuclear reactor and build a new one using private investment. The proposal includes closing 29 coal plants and offering rate cuts to industrial customers. SACE criticized the plan as misleading, arguing it double-counts coal closure savings and would shift costs to other ratepayers.

While we are eager to see additional coal retirements in our region, we strongly oppose any proposals that would exert uninformed political pressure in an attempt to benefit sub-regions of the TVA service territory and/or personally enrich former board members and political donors
