TVA Ends Key Link to Long-Unfinished Alabama Nuclear Plant

In this mention

The Tennessee Valley Authority announced it will not renew permits for the partially completed Bellefonte nuclear plant in Alabama, ending a private developer's plan to finish construction that began in the 1970s. A federal court ruled in August 2021 that TVA could terminate its $111 million purchase contract with Nuclear Development LLC, citing the developer's failure to timely file required license-transfer applications. Stephen Smith of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy characterized the plant's 1960s Babcock & Wilcox design as a "special edition antique," while TVA indicated it would explore alternative redevelopment options for the 1,600-acre site.
