As the TVA considers replacing two coal-fired power plants, three board nominees told a Senate panel they would explore adding more renewable energy to the utility's system. The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, along with Appalachian Voices, Sierra Club, and others, formed the Clean Up TVA Coalition to pressure TVA to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. SACE research director Maggie Shober emphasized that the board members are the ultimate decision makers on TVA's strategic direction.
