TVA blowing away myth about wind power in South
In this mention
The Tennessee Valley Authority's three wind turbines atop Buffalo Mountain near Knoxville are demonstrating that the Southeast can generate electricity from wind power, challenging long-held skepticism about wind viability in the region. Stephen Smith, director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, emphasized that overcoming the myth that wind doesn't blow in the South is one of the biggest challenges facing renewable energy adoption. TVA plans to expand the wind program from 2 megawatts to at least 20 megawatts, with four undisclosed sites already selected in the TVA region.
Our goal was to knock down the myth that wind doesn't blow in the South. Overcoming that myth is one of biggest challenges.
Stephen A. Smith
