Transparency, Accountability Needed in Open AI Contract with Georgia Power
In this mention
NRDC, Sierra Club, and SACE jointly submitted a formal objection to the Georgia Public Service Commission regarding Open AI's contract for 3.2 gigawatts of additional power from Georgia Power. The advocates called for public transparency, standardized tariff classes, and mandatory commission approval for high-impact contracts to protect ratepayers from cost-shifting risks associated with the massive data center project.
The public deserves to know everything about the potential monthly power bill and energy impacts of the largest data center in state history before the Public Service Commission approves it. This should not be a routine, 'behind closed doors' approval process.
