“First, we can do no harm. The proposed Santee Cooper 1,320-megawatt, dirty, coal-fired power plant will spew out tons of global-warming pollution a year. We cannot afford to put any more pollution into our atmosphere. Second, one of the best things we can do to reduce pollution also will help us save on our electricity bills. Everyone should focus immediately on using energy more wisely by installing programmable thermostats, better windows and doors, and efficient insulation and appliances. Third, we can invest in clean homegrown energy resources. South Carolina has great potential for offshore wind power, as well as the ability to put farmers to work growing energy for our future.”
An editorial endorsing two pieces of energy legislation: the federal American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES) and North Carolina's HB 1050 (NC SAVE$ ENERGY). Both bills focus on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and conservation as…
“We don't want to provide some sort of perverse incentive for fuel switching when electricity may be the least efficient option. The bias should be toward maximum efficiency and minimum environmental impact. From a pure physics point of view, there's a real advantage to natural gas for hot water and direct cooking.”
“Instead of feeding our insatiable addiction to dirty, finite fossil fuels, Congress should prioritize conservation and efficiency measures while sustainable, renewable sources are developed.”
A new study titled 'Green Recovery' proposes a $100 billion federal green investment program that could create 2 million jobs nationally and 62,000 jobs in North Carolina. The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy joined other environmental…
