Study predicts slowdown in carbon reduction among Southeastern utilities
In this mention
A new study by the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy predicts that Southeastern utilities will experience a significant slowdown in carbon emission reductions during the coming decade. While Southern Co. achieved a 3.8% average annual reduction in carbon emissions over the past decade, the study warns that utilities' current plans show decarbonization will slow as the easiest coal plant retirements have already occurred. SACE Executive Director Stephen Smith calls for utilities to increase investments in clean energy resources to meet long-term net-zero goals.
