New Duke Energy Carolinas programs approved Tuesday will reduce energy use and increase investments in energy
efficiency, advocacy groups say.
The N.C. Utilities Commission approved a plan that will replace Duke's save-a-watt energy efficiency program. The new
version continues to let Duke profit from energy efficiency investments, but only if customers also save money.
The commission approved the basic elements of an agreement reached in August among Duke, the commission's Public
Staff, the N.C. Sustainable Energy Association, the Environmental Defense Fund, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy,
the S.C. Coastal Conservation League and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
