Southern coal plants top list of worst carbon polluters targeted by Obama climate plan

In this mention

President Obama announced a climate action plan targeting carbon emissions from U.S. power plants, with particular impact on the coal-dependent South. Stephen Smith, executive director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, welcomed the proposal, noting that the South's generation mix makes it a significant contributor to carbon pollution and uniquely vulnerable to climate impacts. The article identifies Georgia Power's Plant Scherer as the nation's worst carbon-emitting coal plant.

As a Southern organization, we welcome the President's leadership in taking responsible action on this issue. Because of our generation mix, the South is a significant contributor to this problem, and our coastlines leave us uniquely vulnerable to increasingly severe storms and extreme weather events, sea level rise and flooding.
