Southeast overlooks energy efficiency as a climate tool, report finds

A new Southern Alliance for Clean Energy report finds the Southeast lags behind the rest of the country on energy efficiency performance of utilities. SACE executive director Stephen Smith emphasizes that energy efficiency is the least-cost energy resource and reduces utility investments. The report shows the South and Southeast scored below the national average of 0.68% in energy efficiency spending as a percentage of retail electricity sales in 2021.
Energy efficiency is the least-cost energy resource. And increasing energy efficiency basically reduces the total investments that the utilities have to make, making it the cheapest way to meet energy needs for customers
