SC lawmakers to study whether to overhaul state's power grid and electric utilities
In this mention
South Carolina lawmakers have established a committee to study potential overhauls to the state's electric utility industry, including the possibility of creating a regional transmission organization (RTO) to introduce competition and accelerate renewable energy adoption. Environmental groups including the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy support the RTO proposal, which could potentially save Southeast utility customers $384 billion by 2040. The study committee, created with bipartisan support following the V.C. Summer nuclear project collapse, is expected to deliver recommendations by November 2021.
