Santee Cooper to recycle coal ash from Conway site
In this mention
Santee Cooper has agreed to remove 1.3 million tons of coal ash from the Waccamaw River in Conway following a settlement of lawsuits filed by conservation groups including the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. The utility will recycle ash from three power stations over 10-15 years, addressing decades of arsenic pollution in groundwater and the river. The settlement represents the second major coal-ash removal agreement in South Carolina involving a major river.
