Report: Close Georgia Power coal plants faster to avert climate crisis
In this mention
A Southern Alliance for Clean Energy report finds that Southern Company, Georgia Power's parent, and other major Southeast utilities are not retiring coal plants or transitioning to clean energy fast enough to meet climate goals. While Georgia Power is performing better than its sibling utilities through nuclear and solar investments, SACE projects Southern Company will not reach net-zero emissions until 2086 without significant changes. SACE Executive Director Stephen Smith emphasizes the need to decarbonize the electrical grid to enable transportation electrification.
It is absolutely imperative that we clean the grid in order to decarbonize the transportation sector
