TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission should no longer allow collection of upfront nuclear costs from Florida Power & Light Co. customers for two proposed reactors south of Miami, an attorney with the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy said Monday.
Attorney George Cavros said the commission needs to protect FPL customers from the same fate as customers of Duke Energy Florida. Thursday, Duke Energy said it had indefinitely postponed plans to build two new reactors in Levy County. Duke is allowed to keep $1 billion in advance fees already collected from ratepayers.
