Orlando utility cuts appetite for coal
In this mention
Orlando Utilities Commission is converting two aging coal-burning plants to run partly on natural gas as coal falls out of favor. A report from the Union of Concerned Scientists and Southern Alliance for Clean Energy found Florida utilities reduced coal consumption by 35 percent between 2008 and 2012. The utility is redesigning the plants to run at variable speeds rather than full capacity to adapt to declining demand.
