Lots of news and announcements this week – please note:
Plan to cheer on Daufuskie's own Haig Point Hot Shots. They will be representing Daufuskie Island this weekend at the USTA South Carolina State Championships in Hilton Head. Schedule is as follows: Saturday, May 19th, 8 a.m., Aiken, 12 noon, Florence at Long Cove Plantation. Sunday, May 20th, 11 a.m., Columbia at Sea Pines Country Club.
Melrose on the Beach and The Pelorus Group Cordially invite you to A preview of the "new" Beach Club! Saturday, May 26th, 12 noon-3 p.m., Beach Club at Melrose. Enjoy a catered Low Country Boil, entertainment, a presentation by ownership and much more. Space is limited, so please RSVP by Tuesday, May 22nd to cedwards@melroseonthebeach.com. Daufuskie Island Turtle Team The first Loggerhead sea turtle nest on Daufuskie Island for the 2012 nesting season was laid May 5th. "Lights Out – Dusk To Dawn – May 1 Thru October 31!"
The Commercial Shrimp Season in state waters officially began May 7th. There is the potential for a faulty or illegal TED (turtle excluder device) that will drown a sea turtle if caught in the net, especially the larger turtles. Please report any Strandings (dead or injured sea turtles) to Holley Miles 843 540-7328 or Tammy Helmuth 843 247-5941. No unauthorized vehicles are allowed on Beaufort County beaches.

Daufuskie Island Council There is no monthly council meeting Monday May 14, 2012, the DIC May meeting is Monday May 21, 5:30 at the Maryfield School. Captain Boyes is our featured presenter. He will be speaking on DI Hurricane preparedness. Please make plans to attend.
