North Carolina carbon plan favors gas over solar-plus-storage
In this mention
North Carolina's first carbon plan order approves Duke Energy's proposal for new natural gas generation, favoring fossil fuels over the solar-plus-storage alternative proposed by SACE and the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association. SACE Research Director Maggie Shober criticized the plan for tracking closely to Duke's proposal rather than the more renewable-heavy alternatives. The order does direct Duke to construct transmission upgrades to facilitate solar interconnection in a regional "red zone" and pursue federal tax incentives.
The carbon plan shows added amounts of solar, storage and gas capacity through 2030 that track "very closely" to the amounts in Duke's proposal
