ENERGYWIRE | NextEra Energy Inc. rallied behind the Biden administration's clean energy goals yesterday, but its CEO warned of headwinds as the $2.2 trillion infrastructure plan winds its way through Congress.

"None of this is going to be easy to get done," said Jim Robo, head of the world's largest renewable energy developer.

President Biden has called for a national clean electricity standard and wants to decarbonize the power sector by 2035. This includes a holistic plan to promote renewable energy, including battery storage; boost clean energy jobs; and focus on underserved communities and ones disproportionally affected by sea-level rise or other consequences of climate change.

"We are very much encouraged by the focus of the administration on decarbonizing the economy," Robo said during NextEra's first-quarter earnings conference call with Wall Street analysts. "We feel like it's absolutely the right thing to do ... and we stand ready to support an infrastructure plan that supports decarbonization."
