Most Tennesseans in Poll Willing to Pay Price for Cleaner Air

A survey commissioned by the Tennessee Clean Air Task Force found that nearly two-thirds of Tennesseans consider air pollution and global warming serious problems, with over two-thirds willing to pay higher electric bills for cleaner power plants. Stephen A. Smith, executive director of the Tennessee Valley Energy Reform Coalition, cited the survey as evidence that Congress is out of step with voters on pollution regulation, particularly regarding exemptions for older coal-fired power plants operated by TVA.
That single regulatory change (elimination of the exemption) could do more to improve air quality in this region than anything else
