Gore keeping mum on TVA's future

In this mention

Vice President Al Gore has remained silent on President Clinton's directive to cut TVA's nonpower federal budget by 100 percent starting in 1999, a stark reversal from Gore's 1985 criticism of Reagan's proposed 70 percent cuts. The Tennessee Valley Energy Reform Coalition argues the proposal is a distraction from examining TVA's power subsidies. Congressional members including Rep. Bob Clement and Sen. Bill Frist are raising questions about the proposal's implications for TVA operations and regional employment.

It was designed to take Congress' attention off the power subsidies (TVA gets), but it didn't work that way
