Four electricians were injured by electrical shock at TVA's Browns Ferry nuclear plant in Alabama on the same day TVA directors were briefed on restarting the mothballed Unit 1 reactor. Stephen Smith of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy criticized TVA's lack of oversight, arguing no other utility could pursue such an expensive project ($1.7–1.8 billion) while carrying a $25 billion debt. The accident occurred in a non-nuclear area of the turbine building with no public safety threat.
