Florida utilities make little move on energy efficiency. FPL rate increase will affect the state
In this mention
Florida's Public Service Commission voted to pass a draft energy efficiency rule that environmental advocates say falls short of modernizing 30-year-old regulations. George Cavros, Florida director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, criticized the decision, noting that utilities proposed zero or near-zero efficiency goals and that Florida uses outdated screening processes that eliminate most efficiency potential. The commission also approved FPL rate increases to offset hurricane costs, though the statewide impact reduced the burden on Northwest Florida customers.
The commission dropped the ball today. They had the unique opportunity to put Florida on a path to lower power bills by using energy smarter. And it chose not to go there. It's a real head scratcher.
