Press Mention Florida Phoenix December 5, 2024

SACE Quoted Web article

Florida has installed the second most solar power capacity in the country in 2024

In this mention

Florida installed 3.1 gigawatts of solar capacity in 2024, the second most in the nation behind Texas, with nearly 30,000 new residential installations. Stephen Smith, executive director of SACE, attributes the growth to a 43% decline in solar costs over the past decade, making solar plus storage more cost-effective than other generation technologies. Florida is projected to become the top residential solar state by 2028 as utilities like FPL expand solar generation as part of decarbonization goals.

The technology price points are actually in the money compared to other generation technology, so it's actually more cost effective to build a solar plus storage for a large utility than it is to build any other generation unit, when you look at the lifetime cost and the cost to get it up and get it operational quickly
