Environmental groups vow to continue court fight
In this mention
A coalition of nine environmental groups led by the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy announced plans to continue its legal challenge against NRC licenses for two new reactors at Plant Vogtle near Waynesboro, Georgia, following a Monday defeat at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The coalition argues that the 2011 Fukushima earthquake and tsunami demonstrate that the reactors pose greater risks than originally understood and that design modifications should be made before construction proceeds. The NRC rejected the coalition's request to halt construction, finding the environmental challenge unlikely to succeed in court.
We think that the commission really should have acted more prudently in light of Fukushima
