Eastman touts 'clean coal' technology, but TVA isn't buying
In this mention
Eastman Chemical Co. is promoting coal gasification technology as a cleaner alternative for electricity generation, but TVA has rejected the approach as economically unviable after 30 years of periodic study. Stephen Smith of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy criticized TVA's decision as short-term thinking, arguing the utility should invest in coal gasification to get ahead of the learning curve before building new coal plants.
TVA will need to build new coal plants eventually, coal gasification is an environmentally superior process and TVA should be "getting on that learning curve" now
