Duke Energy Florida Plans To Double Its Solar Power Capacity

Duke Energy Florida submitted a proposal to build 750 megawatts of new solar capacity at a cost of $1 billion through its Clean Energy Connection Program, a community solar initiative developed with help from the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, Vote Solar, and Walmart. The program allows renters, condo dwellers, and others unable to install rooftop solar to purchase solar power at $8.35 per month per kilowatt block, with rebates after 7 years of participation. About 26 MW is reserved for low-income customers, and the city of St. Petersburg and commercial/industrial customers have already reserved significant capacity.
