Could North Carolina lose title as top solar state in Southeast?

According to SACE's second annual Solar in the Southeast report, Florida is projected to surpass North Carolina as the top solar state in the Southeast by 2022, with forecasted capacity of 6,600 megawatts compared to North Carolina's 6,000 megawatts. The report attributes Florida's rise to aggressive solar expansion by utilities including Florida Power & Light, Duke Energy Florida, and Tampa Electric. SACE executive director Stephen Smith notes that while North Carolina currently leads the region in solar capacity, Florida utilities are making significant strides that will likely result in the state taking the top position.
