Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon's Climate Council held its inaugural meeting to develop strategies for reducing citywide greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent of 2005 levels by 2050. The 13-member council includes representatives from the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, TVA, KUB, and other civic organizations, and will focus on transportation, buildings, and waste reduction. The city has already achieved a 31 percent reduction in municipal operations emissions and plans to present final recommendations in January 2021.
