Climate, consumer groups request Florida PSC hearing to modernize utility efficiency rules

Four consumer and climate advocacy groups, including the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, have requested a hearing before the Florida Public Service Commission to modernize the state's energy efficiency rules ahead of 2024 goal-setting work. SACE director George Cavros noted that it has been approximately 30 years since the PSC last updated its efficiency rules and argued that a hearing would provide a more transparent, interactive process. The groups contend that staff rejected all non-utility stakeholder proposals in the March 2023 rule adoption process.
It would add a few months to the process for sure, but it's certainly a process where the commissioners could make any number of changes if they want it to
