Author of Data-Driven Book on Fukushima Disaster Visits Atlanta

Dr. Edwin Lyman of the Union of Concerned Scientists visited Atlanta to discuss his new book on the Fukushima nuclear disaster, addressing concerns about nuclear safety standards in the U.S. and specifically about Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4 under construction in Georgia. The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy co-hosted the event to educate Atlantans about the dangers of new nuclear construction and regulatory inadequacies. Lyman warned that U.S. nuclear plants are not better equipped than Japanese reactors to handle severe accidents and that seismic risks in the Southeast are higher than when most plants were licensed.
