Imagine a stress relieving massage and customized sensory journey, all designed to take the wear and tear of the day away.
Add to it a haircut fashioned just for you, and before leaving, a professional make-up artist making sure you're looking your absolute best when you walk out the door.
But that's not all the stylists at Pell City's Hair Centre USA have in mind to celebrate Earth Day April 19. All day long, proceeds from customers spending $25 or more for their visit will be turned over to the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy to use in global warming prevention and education programs.
Hair Centre's exclusive use of Aveda's Earth-friendly products helps explain the connection between the local business and global warming.
Nationally, Aveda has joined in partnership with salons using their products since 1999 to raise money for ecological preservation. Since then, Aveda and its associated salons have contributed almost $2 million to nonprofit events and organizations.
Aveda founder Horst Rechelbacher said the company's mission is to "care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways which we give back to society. At Aveda, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of
beauty, but around the world."
Hair Centre USA Stylist Whitney Hollis said the salon has used Aveda products for 17 years.
"Now, we carry just the Aveda line," she said. "The products are all natural, and there are the right products for every skin or hair type."
Aveda not only offers shampoos, conditioners and hair color that are environmentally safe and their ingredients obtained from responsible agents, the Aveda line includes a full line cosmetics, all of which are used for customer touch ups at Hair Centre.
Also, there is no animal testing involved with the production of Aveda products.
Anna Hollis specializes in Aveda cosmetics at Hair Centre, and is the salon's make up stylist.
Nut seed pigment from Brazil, cinnamon from India, even roses from Russia are just a few of the natural ingredients used for color found in Aveda cosmetics. The cosmetics are also made to provide SFP 15.
Aveda also offers skin care products for men and women.
The services offered in conjunction with Earth Day are part of every shampoo at Hair Centre year-round, Hollis said.
Clients can choose from products that energize, are calming or beautifying, each with a different scent and ingredients.
"Every time you get a shampoo, there is a stress relieving massage," Hollis said. "And you choose what you want, whether you need a little pick up or just to relax."
The day-long commitment for Earth Day also gives Hair Centre clients the chance to win a Toyota Prius, the car manufacturer's hybrid that gets 55 miles per gallons of gas.
In addition to Whitney Hollis and Anna Hollis, the professional staff at Hair Centre includes stylists Jimmy Hollis, Tony Hollis and Jay Hollis, along with shampoo specialist Ann Lipham.
Jimmy Hollis opened his first shop in Pell City in 1979, just down the street from Hair Centre's current location at 2023 Cogswell Avenue. For appointments, please call (205) 338-3008.
