Alexander poses 'grand challenges' for energy independence
In this mention
Sen. Lamar Alexander outlined seven "grand challenges" for energy research and innovation at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, including plug-in electric vehicles, solar power, biofuels, building efficiency, carbon capture, nuclear waste management, and fusion research. Gil Melear-Hough of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy criticized Alexander's plan for omitting wind power, the most competitive renewable technology, and questioned the viability of fusion energy as a near-term solution.
Strangely, he is not mentioning wind power in that equation. That is not terribly shocking (Alexander is a wind opponent), even though it is probably the most competitive and most established technology available.
