Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Comments on Proposed Rescission of the Endangerment Finding

 Position Statement | 09.24.2025

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently proposed rescinding its landmark 2009 Endangerment Finding, the scientific determination that greenhouse gas emissions endanger public health and welfare. This finding serves as the legal foundation for regulating climate pollution under the Clean Air Act — including limits on vehicle emissions, the nation’s largest source of greenhouse gases. Rolling it back would strip away one of the strongest tools we have to address the climate crisis at the federal level.

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) strongly opposes this dangerous and misguided proposal. Below is our official public comment, submitted to the EPA, outlining why the Endangerment Finding is more vital today than ever.
