How Low Are We Willing to Go? SACE Condemns Lee Beaman’s Nomination to TVA Board of Directors

 Press Release | 12.10.2025

Today, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, split 10-9 in favor of Republicans, is scheduled to vote on Lee Beaman as the last of Trump’s nominees to join the Tennessee Valley Authority board.

Dr. Stephen A. Smith, Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Executive Director, said, “The nomination of white nationalist Lee Beaman to the TVA Board of Directors represents a low point in the history of TVA. The Senate should reject this controversial nominee, who does not possess the necessary relevant energy experience and character needed to be a director on the TVA Board. Beaman’s professional life is mired in controversial associations with extreme political views and lewd personal allegations. Is there not a low point to which the United States Senate will refuse to go in confirming a director to the nation’s largest public power utility? Have we come to the point where political donations are now the price of a golden ticket to positions of leadership? The Senate should reject this nominee.”
