ADVISORY: New Report to Offer a Solution to FPL’s Failed Cooling Canal System at Turkey Point
Miami, Fla. – Tomorrow, on Thursday, July 28th at 10:00 a.m. ET, advocates will hold a telepress conference to release a new report that provides a feasibility assessment for developing cooling towers to replace the antiquated, leaking cooling canal system at Florida Power and Light’s (FPL) Turkey Point power facility that is threatening South Florida’s drinking water and nearby Biscayne National Park.
The report’s author, mechanical engineer Bill Powers of Powers Engineering, and representatives from the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) will address the findings of this study which offer a potential solution for the existing, water-intensive Turkey Point nuclear reactor units 3 and 4 (located near Homestead, about 25 miles south of downtown Miami).
This report release follows a citizen lawsuit against FPL under the Clean Water Act filed by SACE and Tropical Audubon Society and soon to be joined by Friends of the Everglades after an extensive review of evidence documenting discharges from the Turkey Point Power Plant cooling canal system into Florida surface and ground waters.
WHEN: Thursday, July 28, 2016, 10:00, a.m. ET
WHERE: Dial 727-258-5789 and enter PIN: 97609
