Please join us on November 14, 2012 at 11:00 am EST for a webinar outlining the findings of the Union of Concerned Scientists’ Report “Ripe for Retirement: The Case for Closing America’s Costliest Coal Plants.” Today, more than three-quarters of U.S. coal-fired power plants are well past their 30-year life span, with 17% of those plants being over 50 years old. These older plants operate well below their power generation potential and are far less efficient than the most efficient coal units on our power grid. Not only are these plants inefficient, many of them lack the necessary pollution controls to comply with today’s environmental regulations. The Union of Concerned Scientists have identified a range of 153-353 coal-fired electric utility generating units that are ripe for retirement, depending upon the economics comparison. Some of the stateswith the largest concentration of ripe-for-retirement coal plants are located in the Southeast. Join us and find out more on the location of these old, dirty retirement ready coal plants – they may just be in yourbackyard!
