MEMPHIS, TN – On Wednesday, April 15, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) will host a public meeting on its draft 2015 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), which details how the federal utility will generate electricity in the future. Following TVA’s presentation on the major takeaways from the draft plan, TVA staff will be available to answer questions from the audience.

Staff from Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and the Sierra Club will also attend this event and be available for further questions. This will be the fifth of seven meetings TVA is hosting across the Tennessee Valley.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 7:00-8:30pm

WHERE: MLGW Training Center
4949 Raleigh-LaGrange Rd
Memphis, TN 38128

BACKGROUND:

As members of the TVA IRP Working Group, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and Sierra Club were closely involved in the two-year planning process leading up to the draft plan. Along with energy industry experts, our groups supplied TVA with established data on clean energy technologies, such as solar, energy efficiency and wind demonstrating how these clean energy resources are the most affordable and prudent choices for generating electricity in the Tennessee Valley.

Although TVA has taken an important step by approaching energy efficiency as an energy resource, the draft plan incorporates several inappropriate adjustments and ultimately represents a missed opportunity to help TVA customers save energy, lower electricity bills and foster a robust, clean energy economy in the Valley. Wednesday night’s event offers a rare opportunity for the public to engage in its energy future. The public comment period for the draft IRP closes on April 27th.
