SACE statement on Bingaman-Brownback RES
On September 21, 2010, Senators Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) and Sam Brownback (R-KS), among others, introduced a bipartisan bill for a federal Renewable Electricity Standard (RES). The legislation will require sellers of electricity to retail customers to obtain certain percentages of their electric supply from renewable energy resources. The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Executive Director Dr. Stephen A. Smith issued a statement applauding this as an important first step towards a clean electricity economy – sorely needed for jobs creation and retention, and to continue incremental progress towards a cleaner, safer, more reliable energy future.
