Fla. Mayors Oppose PSC “Cost Recovery” Bailout

Miami, Fla. — Ahead of a vote by the Florida Public Service Commission on October 24, the mayors of South Miami and Pinecrest will speak out at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2011 against the current cost recovery scenario for nuclear power, which requires hundreds of millions of dollars in higher utility bills for Florida ratepayers in order to foot the bill for proposed new nuclear reactors that may never be built.

The cities of South Miami, Pinecrest, and Biscayne Park – along with the Miami-Dade League of Cities – have passed resolutions opposing the early cost recovery law. The two mayors also will encourage Floridians who oppose paying up front for uncertain nuclear projects to speak out to the PSC through an online campaign.
