Coalition Sign-On Letter: ACT and HDO Rule Adoption

Kate Tracy | February 26, 2021 | Position Statements

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) joined with 85 other organizations to submit a letter to the Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management and push back on opposition misinformation on the Advanced Clean Truck and Heavy-Duty Omnibus rules. This national push is relevant to the Southeast because North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper signed onto the Multi-State Medium and Heavy Duty ZEV MOU in 2020.

The letter represents an effort to counter the fossil-fuel industry attacks on medium and heavy-duty vehicle electrification and focuses on the importance of adopting standards passed by California in 2020 to increase the availability of zero-emission trucks and reduce emissions from combustion trucks.

By including the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) rule and the Heavy-Duty Omnibus (HDO) rule in the model action plan, NESCAUM can help ensure that states are demonstrating strong commitments to achieving a zero-emission transportation sector. State leadership on these issues is critical – especially in the absence of protective national standards. These programs are needed to protect public health and the environment, help mitigate climate change, and stimulate the economy. The Biden Administration also has the opportunity to adopt federal standards that help secure substantial emission reductions.
