Woods Hole Research Center Senior Scientist Dr. Jennifer Francis, and Senior NASA Scientist Dr. Timothy Hall to explain how climate change impacts hurricane intensity and storm surge as the 2019 hurricane season commences this week

Tampa, Fla. – With the start of hurricane season upon us, Floridians are waiting, watching, and wondering if we will see anything like the destructive whirlwind of hurricanes in recent years like Michael, Irma, and Maria, which killed thousands of people and caused hundreds of billions of dollars in property damage in the U.S. Further, are we paying enough attention to a key threat —climate change—at a time when forecasts are predicting more destructive, powerful hurricanes as the climate warms?

Join our briefing via webinar for press and allies on Wednesday, June 5th. Learn from Senior NASA scientist Dr. Timothy Hall and Woods Hole Research Center Senior Scientist Dr. Jennifer Francis about how climate change will continue to impact this (and future) hurricane seasons.

WHO: Dr. Timothy Hall, Senior Scientist, NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies; Adjunct Professor, Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics, Columbia University. Dr. Hall’s bio is available here.

Dr. Jennifer Francis, Senior Scientist at the Woods Hole Research Center. More information on Dr. Jennifer Francis is available here.
