SUMMARY:Webinar: "Solar in the Southeast" Eighth Edition Report
DESCRIPTION:The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy will release its “Solar in the Southeast” eighth edition report this October. The report illuminates the critical role of utilities in the growing southeastern solar market and highlights solar data and trends throughout the region\, including Alabama\, Georgia\, Florida\, Mississippi\, North Carolina\, South Carolina\, and Tennessee. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, October 29 at 1 PM ET for a webinar with report author and SACE Senior Energy Policy Manager\, Heather Pohnan; SACE Clean Energy and Equity Director\, Stacey Washington; SACE Research Director\, Maggie Shober; and SACE Executive Director\, Dr. Stephen A. Smith\, to dive deeper into report highlights\, including: \n\nSolar growth continued in the Southeast\, reaching nearly 28 gigawatts (GW) in 2024\, adding 5 GW of new solar in that year alone\nThe Southeast is projected to double the amount of solar in the region in 2030\, as some utilities like Florida Power & Light and Georgia Power have made larger solar capacity deployments in shorter time frames than ever\nFlorida holds the lead as the largest contributor to installed solar capacity\, with nearly 13.9 GW installed in 2024\nWith utilities across the region forecasting significant demand from data centers\, each utility resource plan is an opportunity to add more solar to the grid\, especially if it is paired with battery storage\n\nAs a regional organization\, SACE tracks and compiles information from electric utility integrated resource plans (IRPs) that utilities file with state-level regulators. These resource plans\, along with data on currently operating utility-scale and rooftop solar are used to produce near-term forecasts for total installed capacity of solar power (in megawatts\, MW) for the entire region out to 2030. In this report\, SACE once again offers detailed analysis and information on how solar is doing at the regional\, state\, and utility levels. \nRSVP for the Webinar \nThere will be time for Q&As during the webinar. For those who are unable to tune in live\, a webinar recording\, the report\, and the report’s companion summary article will be sent to registrants.
