Webinar: New Power Plant Carbon Rules & The Southeast
- This event has passed.
May 7 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Join SACE on May 7, 2024 from 1PM – 2PM ET for a webinar to explore the details of the newly announced national limits on carbon dioxide pollution from power plants. The regulations, announced on April 25 by the EPA, serve as the first national limits of carbon dioxide pollution from existing coal plants and new fossil gas plants. Announced April 25, 2024, the new standards aim to slash carbon, coal ash, mercury, wastewater and other toxic pollution from power plants. Until now, pollution from power plants has been nearly unregulated by the federal government, but today’s announcements begin to change that: they will save thousands of lives, protect our air and water, and help preserve a stable climate for generations to come.
During the webinar, we will be joined by Carrie Jenks, Executive Director of the Harvard Law School Environmental & Energy Law Program, to unpack the new rules, and SACE Research Director Maggie Shober will discuss regional context for the Southeast, including our major utilities’ current energy portfolios and proposals, such as Duke Energy, Southern Company, TVA, and Dominion Energy South Carolina.
